INFANT BAPTISM

(ENGLISH)
“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church, and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.'” – Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213
Infant BaptismThe Infant Baptism program includes children 0 to 6 years of age. In order to have your child Baptized, you must:
1. Be a registered parishioner (contact the parish office to register)2. Contact Sr. Madeline for an interview appointment at 760-945-8040 mfitzgerald@stfrancis.org3. Attend 2 classes4. Schedule your child’s baptism AFTER all requirements have been met. The Baptisms are on the 4th Saturday at 9:00 am
5. Donation of $95.00 for each child to be baptized payable at the time of registration.
Expectant mothers are encouraged to initiate the baptism process before their child is born. FOR SPANISH BAPTISM PLEASE CONTACT THE PARISH OFFICE

Baptism (over 7 yrs & older)

To make arrangements regarding the Baptism of a child who has reached the age of reason, about 7 and older, please contact the Parish office (760) 945-8000 for further information.

Adult baptism

For adults looking to be baptized, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), is the process you are looking for. Please contact Sr. Madeline Fitzgerald(760) 945-8040 or e-mail mfitzgerald@stfrancis-vista.org
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BE A SPONSOR (GOD PARENT)?
One Sponsor (Godparent) must be chosen. If two are chosen, a male and a female must be chosen – godfather and godmother - the Church does not permit two of the same gender.
Each person chosen must meet ALL of the following criteria for eligibility:
1. Must be a least sixteen (16) years of age
2. Must be a fully initiated Catholic – must have been baptized, confirmed and received first eucharist in the Catholic Church.
3. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church who leads a life of faith necessary to fulfill the responsibility of being a Sponsor (Godparent) To be in good standing, each Sponsor (Godparent) must:- Be a registered member of a parish in the area where he/she lives.- Attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation- Support the parish to which they belong both financially and through service to the best of their ability- If married, be in a valid marriage – married according to the laws and regulations of the Catholic Church – which means married by a Catholic priest/deacon OR obtained official permission for marriage outside the Catholic Church. Examples of an invalid marriage in the eyes of the Catholic Church would be married by the justice of the peace, or married by another Christian minister or rabbi without proper dispensation from the Catholic Church.- If single, they may not be cohabiting with someone without the benefit of marriage.4. May not be the father or the mother of the person to be baptized
Responsabilities of a baptism sponsor (godpaprents)
1. To present the child for Baptism along with the child’s parents.2. To assist the parents in their Christian responsibilities of teaching & living the faith.3. To represent the community of faith in which the child will be baptized.4. To renew their own profession of Catholic Christian faith.5. To help the child, by word and example, lead a Christian life and fulfill the obligations of their baptism.

CLASSES STARTED IN SEPTEMBER
  • ADULT SACRAMENTS for 2024 - 2025
  • Registration for ADULTS who wish to receive ANY or ALL the SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION (Baptism. Eucharist & Confirmation)
  • Registrations for RCIA are closed but do not hesitate to contact Sister Madeline for more information regarding the sacraments.


  • - Any adult who wishes to become Catholic who was NEVER baptized or qny adult from another faith tradition i.e. Lutheran, Baptist,etc.
  • who wishes to become Catholic or any Catholic adult who was Baptized ONLY and has NOT completed the Sacraments of Initiation (Communion and Confirmation).

  • - Anyone preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage in the Catholic Church in the next TWO to THREE years, needs to Complete the Sacraments of Initiation. (Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist.

  • CONFIRMATION ONLY Adults18 years+.
  • Registrations for Confirmation are closed but do not hesitate to contact Sister Madeline for more information regarding the sacraments.
